The Religion of Love

My heart has become a receptacle of every form;
it is a pasture for gazelles and a convent for Christian monks,
and a temple for idols, and pilgrims' kaba,
and the tablets of the torah, and the book of the Koran.
I follow the religion of love, whichever way its camels take.
For this is my religion and my faith."

- Ibn Arabi -

This is what you shall do....

"This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body." Walt Whitman

The Prayer of Light by the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace

This was the Prophet's favorite prayer...

Ani Zonneveld created this song using the Prophet's Prayer of Light.

“O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light behind me, light in front of me, light on my right, light on my left, light above me and light below me; place light in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair and in my skin; place light in my soul and make light abundant for me; make me light and grant me light.”

--this was the Prophet's favorite prayer.

Believe...

Believe more deeply.
Hold your face up to the light,
even though for the moment you do not see.

Whoever has two coats must share...

In reply he said to them,
“Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none;
and whoever has food must do likewise.”

Theophany of Perfection by Ibn Arabi

Listen, O dearly beloved!
I am the reality of the world, the centre of the circumference,
I am the parts and the whole.
I am the will established between Heaven and Earth,
I have created perception in you only in order to be the object of My Perception.
If then you perceive Me, you perceive yourself.
But you cannot perceive Me through yourself.
It is through My Eyes that you see Me and see yourself,
Through your eyes you cannot see Me.

Dearly beloved!
I have called you so often and you have not heard Me.
I have shown Myself to you so often and you have not seen Me.
I have made Myself fragrance so often, and you have not smelled Me,
Savorous food, and you have not tasted Me.
Why can you not reach Me through the object you touch
Or breathe Me through sweet perfumes?
Why do you not see Me? Why do you not hear Me?
Why? Why? Why?

For you My delights surpass all other delights,
And the pleasure I procure you surpasses all other pleasures.
For you I am preferable to all other good things,
I am Beauty, I am Grace.

Love Me, love Me alone.
Love yourself in Me, in Me alone.
Attach yourself to Me,
No one is more inward than I.
Others love you for their own sakes,
I love you for yourself.
And you, you flee from Me.

Dearly beloved!
You cannot treat Me fairly,
For if you approach Me,
It is because I have approached you.
I am nearer to you than yourself,
Than your soul, than your breath.
Who among creatures
Would treat you as I do?

I am jealous of you, over you,
I want you to belong to no other,
Not even to yourself.
Be Mine, be for Me as you are in Me,
Though you are not even aware of it.

Dearly beloved!
Let us go toward Union.
And if we find the road
That leads to separation,
We will destroy separation.

Let us go hand in hand.
Let us enter the presence of Truth.
Let It be our judge
And imprint Its seal upon our union
For ever.

The Sufi sees the truth in every religion....

“The Sufi sees the truth in every religion.
If invited to offer prayers in a Christian church, the Sufi is ready to do so.
The Sufi will go the synagogue and pray as the Jews do;
will offer Salat with Muslims; and in the Hindu temple worships the same God.
Yet the Sufi’s true temple, the true mosque, is the human heart,
 in which the divine Beloved lives.

Sufism is a religion if one wants to learn religion from it;
it is a philosophy if one wants to learn wisdom from it;
it is mysticism if one wants to be guided by it in the unfoldment of the soul;
and yet it is beyond all these things.
It is the light of life which is the sustenance of every soul.
It is the Message of Love, Harmony, and Beauty.”

- Hazrat Inayat Khan
